Hey guys,
It is now the fourth week that we work on this project and I just wanted to fill you in on what I've been doing. I know I've been MIA, I was having personal problems that backtracked my progress on my project, but I'm back and ready to quickly get back on track.
To begin with, I started researching many genres and examples of films to really capture the essence of what I wanted my portfolio project to be, and I'm in between 2 very popular genres. Thriller and a "coming of age"/Comedy.
Here are some important details regarding the Thriller genre:
What is a thriller?
A thriller film is mainly about the excitement regarding the need to avoid death and damnation. Usually, in many crime stories the protagonist either ends alive, or dead, but in a thriller, the protagonist is pushed to their limits.
Some subgenres of thriller are:
- psychological thriller
- action thriller
- crime thriller
- political thriller
- mystery thriller
- spy thriller
- legal thriller
- science fiction thriller
Core Emotion:
The core emotion in a thriller is excitement. That feeling in your stomach that goes up and down as the film develops is there to make you feel thrill without any risk involved.
Obligatory Scenes:
- There must be a victim and a perpetrator.
- Hostages, dead bodies, missing persons, assaulted, etc.
- A clear point of no return.
- The moment where the protagonist knows that there is no going back, and the only thing that is left to do is fight.
- The protagonist becomes the victim.
- A scene that makes crimes personal. The protagonist becomes the primary victim.
